Creating Meaningful Days for Your Loved One at Home
When Overnight Care May Be Needed
Nighttime can become difficult when a senior wakes confused, attempts to use the bathroom without assistance, becomes restless, or needs help following hospitalization.
Overnight Care may also provide relief when a family caregiver has been losing sleep because they need to remain alert for repeated nighttime needs.
Creating a Meaningful Day
At Thrive at Home, we believe every day should have purpose and joy. Our caregivers create moments of connection, engagement, and meaning that help your loved one thrive.
What Is Overnight Care?
Overnight Care is scheduled in-home assistance provided during agreed nighttime hours. A typical schedule may run from approximately 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., but start and end times can be adjusted when operationally available.
The caregiver remains in the client’s home throughout the scheduled shift. The exact arrangement depends on whether the family selects sleeping-night care or awake-night care.
Overnight Care may include personal assistance, bathroom support, mobility help, reassurance, bedtime routines, morning routines, and other responsibilities documented in the care plan.

Sleeping-Night Care vs Awake-Night Care
The right type of Overnight Care is determined during the initial assessment with our Registered Nurse, who evaluates your loved one’s specific nighttime needs.
Sleeping Night Care, where the caregiver rests in a designated space and responds immediately if needed
Awake Night Care, where the caregiver remains alert and active throughout the night
Recommended when a loved one with cognitive decline experiences sundowning
Recommended when a fall risk tries to get up alone at night
Recommended after a hospital stay when the nights feel too unpredictable
Recommended when a family caregiver has been running on broken sleep for months
What Your Family Gets Back
Overnight Care can give family caregivers scheduled time to rest without being solely responsible for every nighttime bathroom trip, period of confusion, mobility need, or call for reassurance.
The appropriate arrangement begins with an RN assessment and a clear agreement about the caregiver’s hours, responsibilities, sleeping status, communication expectations, and home accommodations.

This letter is to express my gratitude for the wonderful care and support your team provided to my Husband SK while under your care. Special thanks to S who was our angel in the form of our caregiver. I can’t say enough good things about S that could describe what relief she brought to us. She was kind, knowledgeable, happy and best of all she knew what we needed which changed daily.Everyone who was sent to care for SK did a commendable job as did the office staff. Muriel who took so many of my calls was always patient and understanding. What your team did for us will always be remembered and appreciated and I hope they know how important the job they do really is.Gratefully
“My mother has been a client with Thrive at Home for the last six years. The primary daytime caregiver is awesome, knows mom well and has dealt kindly with her changing personal and medical needs. The other caregivers who come, when the primary can not, are also great. I have been comfortable in leaving mom in their capable and experienced hands, to include some overnight stays. The office personnel are easy to work with, very helpful and work with scheduling needs. I would highly recommend Thrive at Home if you need part-time or full-time care for your loved one”

Overnight Care FAQs
Continuity is our hallmark and it matters especially at night. Waking to a familiar face is part of what makes Overnight Care feel safe rather than unsettling.
Yes, and many of our families do exactly this. Our team coordinates daytime and overnight coverage so your loved one has consistent, connected care through the full day.
For Sleeping Night Care, a comfortable designated space is needed. A spare bedroom is ideal. For Awake Night Care, a place to sit and a space to rest briefly is appreciated.
Overnight Care covers the nighttime hours only. The caregiver arrives in the evening and leaves in the morning. Live-In Care means a caregiver resides in the home full time, present through the day and available overnight.
Call (703) 383-9300. A member of our team will talk through what your loved one needs, and a Registered Nurse will conduct a complimentary on-site assessment before care begins.
The Night Should Not Be the Hardest Part
Sleeping-night and awake-night care address different levels of nighttime need. A complimentary RN assessment can help determine the appropriate schedule, responsibilities, caregiver arrangement, and home requirements.
